Special Preview of a Fall Trip/Tour
The Battle of Antietam lasted one day in 1962 and at the end of the battle, 23,000 Americans were dead, the costliest one day battle in the Civil War and, in fact, in all the wars that the United States has ever fought. The battlefield is located outside of Sharpsburg, Maryland, on Antietam Creek, 4 miles from the Potomac River. Because this is the 150th year since the battle, a special re-enactment is planned for the weekend of September 15/16.
The Adult School has planned a two day trip to the battlefield with overnight accommodations in Sheperdstown, West Virginia, on the river, 4 miles from the National Battlefield which is operated by the National Parks Service.
The cost is $120 per person which includes everything but meals and incidentals. The trip is limited to 20 persons and registrations are being accepted on a first-come, first serve, basis. If you are interested, contact Mary Lee Fitzgerald, the trip leader, at
