The Montrose Adult School has both a Spring and Fall Semester. The Spring semester begins on or around the middle of March and the Fall semester begins after Labor Day. There are several classes that start earlier and several that extend beyond the end of the typical semester so have your calendar nearby when you read through this catalogue.

Are classes ever canceled for weather?
Montrose Area Adult School classes happen at many different times of day. Classes are scheduled throughout the week at different times and locations. We feature some Saturday workshops and a number of different out of town trips. Be sure to read through the information for the class you’re interested in carefully: including when and where the class takes place.
Students typically pay $5.00 for each course session unless it is an extended workshop; so if the course meets 4 times, the cost to a student is $20.00. A day long workshop will have an additional fee. Some courses require an additional fee for materials or items required for the course. As you would expect, trips and tours have additional costs associated with them that a standard class does not. Be sure to read through the information for the tour or trip you’re interested in carefully.
If the Montrose Area School District is closed or there is early dismissal, Adult School classes held at the MASD schools will be canceled. You can check whether MASD is open at their website, www.masd.info. Your instructor may also have additional info about classes being closed for the weather.

Can I suggest/teach a course?
These are classes for adults. However, if you have a child or grandchild of high school age who is highly interested in a topic and wants to take a class with you, let us know and we will double-check with the instructor. Children in classes must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or adult family member.

The Adult School is always looking for new instructors and new ideas for community classes. If you would like to share your talent, knowledge, skill, and enjoy teaching; we would be happy to have you. Please fill out a Teaching Proposal Form.
You do not need to have every detail finalized - we’ll be happy to work with you if your proposal is a good fit for an upcoming semester.

Instructors are paid $25.00 per class session (90 minutes to 2 hours) with a minimum of 6 students registering or they may donate their time, if they wish.
Cancellations
For most classes there needs to be a minimum of 6 students for the class to be held. If there is less than 6 students, the class may be canceled and refunds will be sent to the students who registered. If you need to cancel a class please let the adult school know ASAP. There may be someone on the waiting list waiting for a spot in the class. You will receive a refund if the cancellation is 2 weeks before the start of the class.
Spring Class Proposals
Spring Class Proposals are due January 5th. Classes are suggested to begin in late February depending on weather conditions. For example: Pruning classes are usually held late in winter. Classes should end in early June.
Fall Class Proposals
Fall Class Proposals are due July 25th. Classes are suggested to begin September 1st through early December.
