 101   Discover the Art of Zentangle Basics   Instructor: Alice Roche, Certified Zentangle Instructor

No art experience is necessary for this class. Discover the world of Zentangle Art with a Certified Zentangle Instructor. Create beautiful and surprising art with structured patterns called tangles. Zentangle is a drawing method that inspires creativity; it is relaxing and fun and the results are unplanned and rewarding – reminding us that “Anything is possible…..One stroke at a time.”  Class limit, 8.

102   Advanced Zentangle Art    Instructor: Alice Roche, Certified Zentangle Instructor

Students must have previous Zentangle Basic experience.  This class will include the tools needed for creating tangles on black tiles, round Zendella tiles and working with colored pencils, creating gems, going beyond the original Zentangle patterns with ZIA/Zentangle Inspired Art. Class limit, 8.

103   Pysanky (Ukrainian Egg Decorating) Instructor: Mary Jane Taylor, Pysanky Instructor

A Pysanka is a Ukrainian Easter Egg.  You will be decorating raw white eggs using beeswax and dyes, then removing the wax which will reveal the designs. All tools, dyes, and eggs will be provided. Class limit, 20.

104   Basket Making    Instructor: Charlie Ahearn, Basket Maker

This evening class will integrate both beginners and more advanced weavers.  There will be hundreds of patterns from which to choose: material costs depend on the basket chosen.  Beginners will make a nice market basket which teaches all the fundamentals of making other flat reed baskets. Some personal hand tools and other incidentals will be required.

105   Barn Quilts   Instructor: Jayne Stoll, craftsperson

You have seen these colorful quilt block decorations on barns, houses, and garages around the county and now you can make your own. You will select a quilt block pattern provided by the instructor; using a ruler and pencil you will draw it on a 2-foot square of primed plywood.  Using exterior paint, you will paint and finish it in one session.

Class limit, 6 per session.

One Friday May 11, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm    or

One Saturday, May 12, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

Location: Instructor’s residence near Friendsville, directions will be sent by the instructor.

106   Quilt Applique    Instructor: Glenda Ely, quilter

This six-session course is for beginners to learn several hand applique techniques.  No longer will you say, “I can’t do applique!”  You will learn to make templates, prepare fabric, mark placement, and sew appliques.  Each student should bring fabric and paper shears, fine needles and thread to match fabrics, several coordinating fabric scraps or fat quarters and 1 yard of background fabric.  Class limit, 6.

107   Color Theory for Quilters    Instructor: Barbara Merritt, quilter

Color is such an important part of our lives, no less so for those of us who love to quilt. This class will focus on the identification and selection of colors and the specific challenges facing those of us who are limited to commercially available quilting fabrics for our palette. We will learn how to use the color wheel to express feeling, temperature, and emotion in our quilt, ensuring a design that is exciting and yet pleasing to the eye. The class will include the design and piecing of a quilt called Metro Rings, which uses simple pieced strip sets, created taking advantage of the color lessons exploring value, intensity and luminosity of color. We will also learn some tips and tricks for curved piecing. An optional kit will be available for a small fee, but is not required for the class. More information will be provided prior to the class. Either our first or second class will include a trip to a local quilt shop to select fabrics based on your personal color preferences.

108   Watercolor Painting Workshop   Instructor: Cindy Reynolds, teacher and painter  This class is full

This is a class for watercolor painters at all levels whether you are a beginner or a seasoned painter.  Cindy will present drawing and watercolor techniques in a workshop type atmosphere and will provide individual assistance as needed.  Individuals will receive instruction as needed and will have time to work on their own paintings. There will be a group critique and share time at the end of each session.  Class limit, 15 students

109   Plien Air Painting    Instructor: Jeanne Osenbaugh, painter

The class will focus on painting from life. We will paint outside whenever possible. We can go inside and paint if the weather is bad.  Inside we will do a still life or an interior,  always using the “Alla Prima” method of direct painting.  The students can use any medium they wish and should bring their own supplies including easels and end tables. The instructor will be demonstrating in oils and pastels.

110   Acrylic Painting    Instructor: Maggie Miller, painter

This is a painting workshop where you will bring your own supplies and projects and Maggie will help you along the way to complete your art piece.  Their will be a shared critique at the end of each class. The class is limited to 10 for more individual assistance.

The class will cover basic 1,2,3, point perspective design for beginners or great for a review.  Instructions, handouts, application and individual assistance will be included in the class.  Supplies to bring: pencil, pen, 12″ ruler, sketch pad 9″ x 12″.  Class limit, 10.

112    Perspective Drawing 2       Instructor: Joyce Coons, artist

In each class we will do a finished drawing of one of the perspectives (1,2,3, point) and detail it with shadowing. In the third class bring a picture of your house or favorite barn (building) to review and draw for your last class. Supplies to bring: Pencil, pen, 12″ ruler, and a 9″ by 12″ sketch pad.  Class limited to 10.

Beginner tole painting.  This is an acrylic basic painting technique. The instructor will be covering loading brushes, strokes, double loading, shading flowers and leaves.  Supplies to bring: Acrylic paints (bottle or tube), watercolor pad (90lb to 140lb) 9″ by 12″.   Brushes: Nylon, round #6 and #12, shader #6 and #10 (flat or chisel edge), Liner #8.   Class limit, 10.

115    Voice Class: Learn to Sing with Confidence    Instructor: June Ely Grube, voice instructor for 30 years

A class for people who sing in choirs, sing for fun, sing in the classroom, sing at church, or sing in the rain!  No formal music lesson experience required.  The class will focus on breathing, finding your best sound, singing on pitch, and singing with expression.  You will sing simple phrases and sing familiar tunes, such as fold tunes.  There is no need to prepare an aria or other piece.  The emphasis will be finding your best vocal sound. Studies show that people who sing release endorphins that help happiness.  Singers have better posture and live longer.  Singing can also help lung and heart health!

116    Learn to Crochet    Instructor: Renee Coy, yarn enthusiast

This is a beginner level class where you will learn basic crochet terms and stitches. I will have supplies you can purchase or bring your own.  We will work through a pattern together from start to finish.

117    Keep on Knitting   Leader: Bruce Baessler, knitter

Join a group of knitting enthusiasts to share ideas and patterns. Demonstrate a technique that would help others.  Show off your latest knitting project. Get help from others in the group with knitting problems. Propose projects to the group for charity projects.  Inspire each other to keep on knitting.

118    Machine Knitting    Instructor: Anne Butler, craftsperson

You will learn the basics of machine knitting.  After some practice you will knit a basic garment.  You will also be able to see the Design-a Knit computer program which allows you to design knit garments and patterns based on your gauge. Design-a-Knit is useful for hand knitters also.
